Iodinated Resin
Water Purification Chemicals
Iodinated Resin is a media which is used to make the drinking water free of bacteria. The quantity of iodine & iodide ions in this media can be controlled to give a specific leach of iodine-iodide. It is possible to offer products from as high as 8 ppm iodine with zero iodide or completely disinfected water with no residual iodine AND iodide.
Where is it used?
It is used in domestic water filter systems like storage filters, tap attachments, tumblers, sipper bottles, water jugs etc.
How does it work?
Iodine is a known antibacterial agent. It deactivates the enzyme pathways & disrupts the cell metabolism. It prevents nucleus & cellular multiplication, thus arresting the propagation of bacterial colonies. It displays a controlled iodine-iodide leach so that the water does not have excess taste & color of iodine. As the iodine-iodide gets consumed, the color of the resin changes from pitch black to brown & the resin swells indicating exhaustion & replacement of media. This property can be used to incorporate auto-shut off mechanisms in water filter systems.
